Make a pumpkin spiced latte with your halloween leftovers

The beloved pumpkin spiced latte is basically the nations favourite autumn coffee. However, I was actually weirdly shocked to discover that the pumpkin syrup in Starbuck’s Pumpkin Spiced Lattes doesn’t actually include any pumpkin, like, at all.

The discovery that my guilty pumpkin pleasure was actually just filled with artificial flavours and preservatives did slightly deter me from the seasonal delicacy. Though, with Halloween 2017 now a thing of the past, there’s never been a better reason to make your own delicious, nutritious pumpkin spice latte.

Ingredients

  • Pumpkin Puree (you can make this super easily from your leftover pumpkin)
  • Coconut Milk
  • Vanilla Extract
  • Ground Ginger
  • Cinnamon
  • Nutmeg
  • Canned coconut milk
  • Strong coffee

First Step – Making the pumpkin spice

Simply whisk the pumpkin puree (about 1/4 of a cup), a tablespoon of coconut milk, cinnamon(1/8 teaspoon), nutmeg (1/8 teaspoon) and ground ginger (1/8 teaspoon). Put into a saucepan over medium-high heat.

Second Step – Adding the coffee

If you haven’t already, now would be the perfect time brew your coffee, your choice in coffee is entirely up to you. Check out our range of coffee to discover which one would make the perfect pumpkin spiced latte. Once brewed, add about 2 cups worth to the saucepan of spices.

Third Step – Making it into a latte

A latte requires milk, which is where your canned coconut milk makes an appearance. Froth about 2 cups worth of the milk in a separate saucepan – this does require a frothing tool. Add the vanilla extract to the milk making sure that you don’t let it boil. Don’t have a frother? No problem, you can just add the milk however you really want. Lattes are meant to be milky (read our blog on popular coffee drinks explained) but obviously you can make it your very own – that is the beauty of DIY.

Fourth Step – Drink your Pumpkin Spiced Latte

Add some cream and syrup on top if you want – make it your own. Now all that’s left to do is enjoy your very own DIY pumpkin spiced latte. Although we think it might be some kind of autumn-beverage-cardinal-sin you can actually enjoy this all year round.
